RE: Advice on our trip to the Imperial Sand Dunes Please...

I have been to Buttercup many times... never seen anyone running across but it's easy to see how it could happen. The rest area would be an easy pick up spot for a waiting car.
When the friendlies come through... what type of issues do they cause?
Personally, we had a car load of them pull up behind our trucks/trailers with their lights off asking if we have seen any "mexicans" around. They then talked in Spanish to each other and then told us, if we saw any mexicans, to get the border patrol and they would help us.....
There were articles in the Yuma papers a couple of years ago about people getting their trailers shot at by "friendlies" and had their stuff stolen.

RE: 5th Wheel questions ????

Hello,
We are looking to sell our WW FS3000, and get into a 28-32ft 5th wheel.
1. What can I expect in terms of MPG with a 06 F250 CC PSD SWR?
2. What's a good candidate for a 5'ver that won't exceed my TV GVWR?
Or worst case we move into a 25ft for a couple years and see what is available after that.
Sorry to say, but none of the wide body 5ers will stay under your GVWR of your truck.
Unless you look at something like the superlite series by Warrior, or something similar to that.

RE: Advice on our trip to the Imperial Sand Dunes Please...

My group won't do Buttercup anymore after we had a run in with the "across the border" friendlies a couple of years ago...
In the camping area of Buttercup?
Down by plank road.
There have been plenty of issues at the culdesac also.

RE: Never thought I'd lust after a toy hauler...

pctpaul, I've been going over in my head what we could use the back end for, and pretty much all the things you listed were on my list too - imagine a full sized BBQ at the site!! Mmmm, good.
The question is, what readily available 3500 dually can actually handle a trailer with a dry hitch of 2900lbs, dry weight of 14,600, and a GVWR of 19000lbs!?! Checked my Dodge brochure, and the highest GCWR is 24,000lbs. Are these haulers into the territory of MDT's?
Mike
F450. No problems with that truck.

RE: 2007 chevy silverado 1500 4.8l v8

With that truck and that motor, don't go over 22' or so.
You won't find a big enough trailer for what you want to do with that small of a truck.

RE: Eventful End of Our Trip this Weekend

What size and type of tires?
The other 2 tires on that side of the trailer have been compromised. Those other 2 tires had to take all the weight when that middle tire blew. Which means for a short amount of time, they were more than likely over loaded.

We mainly do Gordons Well. Big open area to camp in. Dunes are good.
Glamis has the big bowls and is so much fun in big cars.
That weekend may be a little busy for an "off" weekend. That is Columbus Day weekend and I know quite a few people are going that weekend.

RE: Where to Camp Glamis

I am getting pretty excited, I leave tomorrow morning.. I am a bit concerned about the forecast of 105 for the hole time we are there, but I guess this is why we have AC. With a new baby that geni is going to run day and night..
I just put in 4 point harnesses in the new Rhino and after trying them out I with I would have gotten 5 point. The lap belt rides up pretty high when tightening the shoulders. I guess I will just have to add the 5th later..
Thank you all for your help. I think I am going to check out the Flats behind the store just after Gecko that SteveT777 mentioned and if that don't look good off to the washes..
Broc2
Just be careful with the heat.
Take plenty of water on rides and don't ride alone....
Take a cell phone with you and GPS is you have one.

RE: Onan generator service

Every 150 hours I change the oil and air filter.
I put new fuel filters on every year. There are 2, 1 from the fuel station and 1 at the carb.

RE: run generator all night to run heater fan?

Switch your batteries out to 6V's and you won't have to worry about killing your batteries.
No, don't run the genny all night.
Run it for a couple of hours before going to bed.
I set my furnace at 73F, it gets down to 30F at night at Glamis.
I get up in the morning and my batteries are still on green.
I have a 40' trailer so it has alot of space to warm up.

RE: Anyone else run out of room in there toyhauler? Suggestions

One of these Mfgr's is going to have to step-up where WW left off.
I'm happy with my trailer but, if someone was looking for similar storage I don't think there are similar options available.
I agree. I had to custom order my hauler just to get as much cargo space as I have.

RE: Where to Camp Glamis

What kind of rig do you have? That will dictate on where to camp in the washes.
The lower the wash number, the more you'll hear the train horn. On off weekends and weekdays, the train hardly ever blows it horn away from the train crossings.
I have a WW FSC3200 with a F350 4X CB Long Bed.. 59feet total How dose it dictate, will I have to park in the soft sand or will I not be able to turn around or what other problems?
Thanks
I know Wash 2,3 and 11 will be no problem for you.
I just haven't been to the others to know or not.

RE: Where to Camp Glamis

Nope not over Halloween. I am leaving in 3 days. PRETTY EXCITED ... Trains all night!! THAT SUCKS!!
If it is that busy at Halloween dose that mean it won't be that busy next weekend??
It is going to be warm this weekend. 104 this week in Phoenix. Take plenty of gas for the genny and water.
Yep, the weekend before and after Halloween will be fairly quiet.
I am going 2 weeks before Halloween and then the weekend after Halloween.

RE: Where to Camp Glamis

Broc, when you going? i always stay at the flats but that's because that is where my group camps. I don't know much about the Washes but I have ridden thru them.
Steve
We are going on the 26 and staying until the 1st. What do you mean the "Flats"? Is that the same as Cement flats on Gecko Road? Where do all the vendor set up..? Is the hole place like a 24hour party?
Sorry everyone for all the questions, thats for all the answers.....
Those dates, are those over Halloween?
If so, it won't matter where you stay, it will be crazy that weekend.
There are vendors right across from Cement flats and there are vendors behind the store.
The trains run all night and blow their horns whenever they come by.

Gas and Diesel went up here like 6 cents a gallon but has come back down since.
Another example of media hype getting people to panic.
